“I am extremely pleased the Governor signed this bill into law. Some veterans have suffered significant disabilities in the line of duty including paralysis, loss of sight, or severe psychological trauma. The last thing they need to worry about is how they are going to afford to pay taxes on discharged debt,” said Polistina (R-2). “This legislation will make sure New Jersey’s disabled veterans will never have to pay taxes on discharged student loan debt and will offer financial relief and stability to these injured veterans during their time of need.”

My legislation will make sure that insurance companies provide proper benefits and coverage so that everyone under 21 can reach their full development and potential.”

“Following the decriminalization of marijuana and the changes to the juvenile justice laws, many law enforcement officers are being left with unclear direction as to what, if anything, they can do to combat some of the offenses and issues being caused by some juveniles primarily in our shore communities,” Senator Polistina said. “This new law will give some power back to the police, and hopefully help to quell any issues before they arise.”

“As our children prepare to return to the classroom, parents shouldn’t be losing sleep with concerns about the safety of their kids,” explained Polistina (R-Atlantic). “Many New Jersey towns do not have local police departments that can place an officer within their schools. Under this legislation, a County Sheriff could hire a retired police officer to work within the schools, during the class day and events, to ensure the highest quality of safety and security.”

“An individual who chooses a career in emergency services typically does so with the intent of being there for good. Sadly though, many face injuries while in the performance of their duties that result in them no longer being able to perform the job,” said Polistina (R-2). “After dedicating their lives to law enforcement or the fire service, they find themselves needing to start over, many with no training or skills outside their former profession.
“We want to help them prepare to step into a new field that may never replace their chosen occupation, but one that will help fill the void,” Polistina continued.

In a May 24th letter, the legislators cited the spike in gas prices and overall distance of travel for South Jersey residents as the main reasons for the request.
“We understand the changes that happened during the height of the COVID pandemic, but those times are gone,” stated Senator Polistina. “With the price of gas at an all-time high, and more restrictions related to COVID going away, it’s time to get the MVC back to normal.”
